(B) Start-ups and established players should be focusing on creating and innovating. Patent litigation is a major hurdle for technology companies that want to change the world. And efforts to reform the patent process have not brought any significant improvements so far.
Today’s announcement of Elon Musk in the Telsa’s Blog that Telsa “will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology” is a major disruption to not only the highly regulated and conservative car industry but also to the whole technology industry.
I have over and over witnessed that successful companies are the ones that focus on their missions and their customers and forget (yes, I say forget 🙂 ) about their competitors.
And, Mr. Musk is just doing that:
“Tesla Motors was created to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport. If we clear a path to the creation of compelling electric vehicles, but then lay intellectual property landmines behind us to inhibit others, we are acting in a manner contrary to that goal. Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology.”
