(T) TechCrunch had its 8th Annual Crunchies Award at the San Francisco Symphony’s Davies Hall this week. You can read everything that happened at the event on the TechCrunch’s site. I was delighted to see that the Best Technology Achievement was given to the young engineering team from Eindhoven in the Netherlands that designed Stella the world’s first solar-powered family car (I guess that all those words are necessary to support the marketing claim!). While at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, every car manufacturer was announcing future self-parking and self-driving cars, I did not see a lot of announcements about solar-powered cars. And while self-parking and self-driving cars must have a place in our future transportation system so do solar-powered cars. And, please do not tell me that the growing production of shale oil should change that picture!

And let’s not forget that while we do need solar-powered cars, we also need solar-powered planes. Solar Impulse is just getting to start its first round-the-world solar flight:
