(E) The New York Times has published a very interesting article “San Francisco’s Big Seismic Gamble” about the risks of building taller and taller, in the San Francisco downtown when the Big One will happen. The race to build new offices and new homes are certainly pushing the limits to new heights.
The Salesforce tower on Mission Street, with 61 stories and 1,070 feet tall, is the tallest San Francisco building. It aims to provide offices to 4,500 Salesforce employees! That number itself is such a huge number of people commuting to San Francisco every day.
In contrast, Chevron, that traces its roots in San Francisco back to 1879, decided in 2001 to move its headquarters from Market Street to a San Ramon business park where 3,500 employees are working.
