(E) For the pleasure of both the kids and the adults, the Monarch is back in Pacific Grove. And, its number is slightly above last year (See the blog post from last winter) and around 15,000. With no major fire for the last two years around the Bay Area and the Monterey Bay, the butterflies have found their overwintering sites.
But before to reach the Monarch Habitat Sanctuary, a few deers welcomed us:



And at the Sanctuary, many clusters of Monarch on many trees were waiting for us:







Hopefully, the population will grow again next winter, and we will monitor it. The monarch is a critical species for the ecosystem of California.
